Little Somebody Records presents:

Birch Book [volume III] - 'A Hand Full Of Days'

Little Somebody Records Blogspot - Myspace

Third in the Birch Book series, 'A Hand Full of Days' represents the culmination of a thaumaturgic  journey through 'That High Lonesome Path'. This vagabond’s romance recalls elements of Baroque psychedelia along with the hazy grit of classic Loner Folk rendering an inimitable vision of Existential Mysticism.
                With a rare sensibility beyond the mainstreams of soulless rationality or unworldly idealism, this collection of intensely personal and reflective compositions find family with fragile incongruent meditations, stark passages and foliated interludes. Over all hovers a wistful, nostalgic mood of conviction.

Musicians: B’ee:  songs, voice, guitars, piano, harmonica, sundry instruments;
Pascal Humbert:  bowed contrabass, electric bass guitar
Ron Walker:  hammond organ, pedal steel guitar;
Subhadra:  chorus

Birch Book [vol II] 'Fortune & Folly'
Sundry Rues and Wonders of a Wayward Wanderer

Assuming the allegorical emblems of The Wheel of Fortune and The Traveling Fool, Fortune & Folly distills the introspections of a perennial rambler reckoning 'the Bitter and the Bliss' of The Road Less Traveled; Brooding layers of sound and sense yield a spectral ethereality thick with the visionary allusions of a haunted wanderer bent upon a mythic path…

The Wheel of Fortune is a concept in medieval and ancient philosophy referring to the capricious nature of Fate. The wheel belongs to the goddess Fortuna, who spins it at random, changing the positions of those on the wheel - some suffer great misfortune, others gain windfalls.
The iconographical Fool is most often portrayed as a young man on the outset of a journey, carrying a knapsack at the end of a wooden staff, with a small biting dog at his heels.

"a master-work of contemplative genius by an artist at the peak of his songwriting powers." - Barl Fire [full review here]

"Fortune & Folly" is an album that must be experienced. Atmospheric and almost downright spooky, its melancholy is rich, while the harmonies are thick and juicy. Addictive." - J-Sin for Smothernet [full review here]

"Birch Book writes music that is almost painfully pleasurable to listen to. This is still true folk music in the striking power of its simplicity. The relationship of artist and guitar is noticeably intimate and the vocals drift gently, sometimes barely - deliberately - out of the shadows. The listener's mind is caressed and the soul is stirred." - UpchuckUndergrind, fishcomcollective [full review here]

"Birch Book begins and ends with an instrumental piece that seems to reference moments in a Satyajit Ray film: heavy rainfall on a lily pond, the burning of a mustard field, children playing in the dirt..." NE Performer Review Here

"This album is not what many expect, it is not overly experimental, not droning or psychedelic but it simultaneously brings the older mystical folk of Donovan into the current and points a new individualistic way forward for the artist..." Unbroken Circle Review Here

"This is the sound of a young artist with a maturity and self-assured confidence way beyond his years, taking time out from his usual repertoire, stretching out and flexing his artistic might with grace and skill..." Barl Fire Psychedelic Review Here
